Nurses’ pivotal and indispensable role in the healthcare system came to the limelight during the COVID-19 pandemic. Till then, they remained the unsung heroes of the healthcare system. The compassionate care and comfort that they provide to patients are unparallel. Project ViThai decided to Honor these heroes on on May 12, at Kannagi Nagar Public Health Centre tp recognize their invaluable contribution to take care of the patients that come to the Public Health Centre and also in spreading awareness and knowledge to the community in an around Kannagi Nagar.
significance of nurses day
Nurses Day is celebrated on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale’s pioneering work during the Crimean War and her subsequent efforts in healthcare reform laid the foundation for professional nursing. This day is a reminder of her legacy and the ongoing dedication of nurses to improving patient care.
The Evolution of Nursing: Embracing Challenges and Innovations – Community Work – Kannagi Nagar - Slum Resettlement Area
The role of nurses has significantly evolved over the years. From bedside care to advanced practice roles, nurses engage in various aspects of patient care, of which community intervention is one of the major roles. Kannagi Nagar Urban Primary Health Centre, located in the heart of Kannagi Nagar, caters to marginalized communities in the slum resettlement area of Kannagi Nagar. This health centre is in the middle of tenements. The challenges faced by the Nurses here vary from resource scarcity, lower awareness among the community of the different ailments, and lesser understanding and acceptability of conditions and the method to recover. This makes their task overwhelming.
We have seen them work amidst all these challenges with a smiling face, being patient with everyone, and guiding the community accordingly.
Felicitation on 12th May – By Project ViThai
We felicitated the Nurses on International Nurses Day by Cutting a cake and distributing a smiley badge and a small note of appreciation. Games and entertainment activities were conducted, like guessing, passing the note, antakshari, and acting out a favourite character. It was a day filled with fun and entertainment, and all 14 Nurses who participated thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a refreshing experience for all of them, outside of their routine work. Along with our team members, Mr John Alex and Trustee Varshini Illam Trust graced the occasion.
